# What does a gift status of "Valid (Used)" mean?

This gift status means that the recipient has selected a retailer to spend some or all of their gift card. 

Unfortunately it is not technically possible for GiftPay to identify whether or not the recipient has actually redeemed the gift value at the retailer, as this data is held by the retailer only.
