# Setting up and signing in with Passkeys

Passkeys offer a faster, simpler, and more secure way to access your GiftPay account. Using your device's built-in security, such as Touch ID, Face ID, Windows Hello, or a hardware security key, you can sign in with a single touch or glance without having to type in a password.

## What is a passkey?

A passkey is a digital credential tied directly to your device or password manager (such as Apple iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager, Windows Hello, or 1Password).

Unlike traditional passwords, passkeys cannot be guessed, reused, or stolen through phishing attacks because your login credentials never leave your personal device.

## Benefits of using passkeys

* **Faster sign-in:** Log in instantly using your fingerprint, face scan, screen lock, or security key.
* **Phishing-resistant:** Passkeys only work on the official GiftPay sign-in page, protecting you against fraudulent links and spoofed websites.
* **Streamlined security:** Because passkeys inherently verify both your identity and your device, signing in with a passkey automatically bypasses standard two-factor authentication (2FA) prompts.

## How to add a passkey

You can register multiple passkeys across different devices, such as your work laptop, mobile phone, or a dedicated security key.

1. Sign in to your GiftPay account.
2. Navigate to **User Settings**.
3. Scroll to the **Passkeys & Security Keys** section.
4. Click **Add new Passkey**.
5. Follow the on-screen prompt from your browser or operating system to confirm your biometrics, device PIN, or security key.
6. Once registered, the new passkey will appear under **Your Saved Passkeys**.

## How to sign in using a passkey

1. Go to the GiftPay Expres **Sign In** screen.
2. Click the **Passkey** button located under “**Or sign in with**”.
3. Follow the prompt on your device (e.g. scan your fingerprint, look into the camera, or insert your key) to authenticate.
4. You will be signed directly into your account, no password or separate 2FA code required.

## Renaming or removing a passkey

To manage your registered devices and passkeys:

1. Go to **User Settings** and locate **Passkeys & Security Keys**.
2. Find the credential in the **Your Saved Passkeys** list:
   * **To rename:** Click the **edit icon** (pencil) next to the passkey, enter a custom label (e.g., _Work MacBook_ or _Personal iPhone_), and save.
   * **To delete:** Click the **remove icon** (**×**) next to the passkey you want to revoke.

## Can I still sign in with my password?

Yes. Your standard username and password remain active. If you are signing in from a device that does not support passkeys or doesn't have your passkey saved, simply enter your username and password on the sign-in screen as usual.

## Do I still need Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)?

If you sign in using a passkey, you will not be prompted for a 2FA code because passkeys satisfy multi-factor requirements by default. However, if you choose to sign in using your regular password, any existing 2FA requirements on your account will still apply.

## Can I set up passkeys on multiple devices?

Yes. We recommend adding a passkey on every device you regularly use (for example, your primary laptop and your mobile device) so you always have a quick way to sign in.

## What happens if I lose my device?

Because your password remains active on your account, you can sign in from any other computer using your standard username and password (plus your 2FA method, if enabled). Once signed in, go to **User Settings** and click the **×** icon next to the lost device to remove its access.
